The Snowballers: Beginning of the path

Hello! :)

As for our first post here, it is time for some introduction!

Our group is formed by three people: Pavel Chistov, Ilaria Failla and Aparajita Chowdhury. Pavel and Aparajita are both from UX/HTI unit, while Ilaria's beckground is Telecommunication Engineering.

After some short (and undoubtedly creative) thought, we decided to call our group the "Snowballers". Unfortunately, there were only two of us (Pavel and Ilaria) that participated in the first exercize session due to our third member, Aparajita, wasn't able to attend it. But we are planning to upload a second picture all together this week!

The ultimate goal of our group is to mix our different backgrounds in order to achieve a result in a form of a prototype that can be analysed from different points of view. In our team project we will strive to create something new that values the time investment of potential users (and ours) and include a great level of detail. At this point, our project is only being briefly discussed among our team members.

We decided to establish primary communication chanell via WhatsApp group conversation, where we can easily deliver our thoughts about the project issues encountered during the work and eventually come up with some viable solution. Also there is a Google drive folder, where we can share our group materials.

Speaking about work division, our team agreed on the fact that the different roles of the members will be defined more specifically during the team work period. But at the current moment, we could state that Pavel will be productive in terms of creating visuals and graphics for a future prototype and using the proper tools to do the practicalities, while Ilaria is more into managing the group, keeping the situation under control, desicion making, solving conflicts and checking that everything is going according to plan. As for Aparajita - for now we are waiting for the second Workshop to make comments on her.

We agreed on the fact that is better to actively communicate if any conflicts occur or even try to solve them on face-to-face meetings (so we could avoid the risk of any team member being silent or abscent), with focus on keeping our minds on our main goal - the team work instead of actual quarell.

Moreover, we desire to support each other, trying to understand the different ways of thinking and mindset that the members of the group can have as well as respect each other's schedule. For this reason, we decided not to text each other about project matters in the WhatsApp group after 19.30 pm (though except very crucial cases, i.e. when the deadline is up ahead), for the reason that we do not want to stress each other with night crunches or allow possible conflicts, but we want to be positive and efficient during the work day. We will also try to hold regular face-to-face meetings where we will discuss the different stages of the team work and consequently workflow subdivision.

And team contribution? This topic is currently on consideration (as Aparajita wasn't able to participate  the discusion on the first week), but for now we agreed on having a separated doc on Google Drive for a work log, where team members will be able to describe their part and hours spent on it, so we could have a objective and somewhat statistical overview of the work. Additionally, it is also possible to deliver some agendas for each meeting that will be held so team could assess project matters and distribute the workload.

In the first Workshop we started to know each other better in a really nice way through a walk around the university and by doing some activities. We really enjoyed this phase, and it was nice especially the task where we had to represent some terms through facial expressions and body movements the word written in the paper.

After that, we tried to create a prototype of a small figurine, and since the beginning we noticed that the group was well balanced, one trying to create the general prototype, paying attention to the right sizes and the instructions given, and the other one looking more into the details and to the final result.

(For the third member we wait for the second Workshop to comment).
